Hello Fellow Gardener,
I'm so excited that you've landed here. I, like so many others, didn't grow up with any knowledge of gardening or where my food came from. It was just something that showed up at the dinner table and came from the store. It wasn't until my mid twenties when my health rapidly deteriorated that I started to care.
A gift my husband received, for Christmas, transformed our lives. A countertop, AreoGarden, was the gift of gardening. It sparked such joy and imagination in us both. Learning about how to grow, cook, and preserve food changed the way we lived our life. Our gift turned into a hobby and our hobby turned into a better way of living. I want to share that same joy with you and help you take control of how you nourish your body and mind. I look forward to being a part of your journey.
P.S. No one has green thumbs, just dirt under their fingernails.
Warmest regards,
Jessica Weesner
Watching onions grow is so satisfying. They start so small and produce their green tops first. Then when they start to bulb, the anticipation is overwhelming. I love that it's easy to know when to pick them too. The tops will fall over, no guess work with this crop.
We dont just grow edibles in out garden. These cana lillies sit just outside our kitchen window and bring this same smile to my face every time I look out at them.
We use a lot of garlic in our house. This garlic braid not only was useful for storing the garlic neatly, but we also hung it in the kitchen as decor.
I never was a fan of peas until growing them myself. These just hit different. They are so sweet and crisp when first picked. I even have a favorite pea recipe now.
I had to stand on an 8 ft ladder to get this picture. This sunflower was as stunning from the ground as it was up there.
One great thing about growing your own lettuce is how fresh it is. You don't have to worry about how long it has been on the shelf at the store, and if it's about to go bad. It doesn't get any fresher than this.
Root crops are such a surprise. You can only guess as to what you are going to unearth, but it's always a thrill. Did you know sweet potatoes need to cure for 3 weeks after picking to develop their sugars?
I truly love getting my hands in the dirt. There is nothing like moving a literal ton of dirt all by yourself! Girl Power!
Growing okra has changed my outlook on growing edibles during the dead of summer. It produces the most beautiful flowers and a never ending supply of okra.
